Before and After Examples from Product Retoucher John Deaville
Product Retoucher samples from some of my projects. I am currently updating this section to include before and after sliders. I am also adding quicktime animations showing stages of the retouching process.
Below is a selection of before and after examples as sliders and animations.
For this project, I was provided with 2 images, one with ribbons and one without. I created several versions of the trophy with/without ribbons and socks. To do this I:
- used the body of the image shown above (with ribbons)
- pathed around the etchings so I could add the etching back on top of the new panels of chrome
- pathed around the panels and added gradients to create new, clean chrome with no reflections.
- created a bevelled look by using black and white line created by the paths above
- used several images of sock to create the socks and reflections
- provided all final images as cutouts so the designer could incorporate into their artwork
This image is a composite of many different shots.
For this diamond ring image for Debeers, I manipulated the image by:
- blending alternative shots, so that the entire object was in focus.
- pathed/cut out the object and reflection so the background is uniformly white.
- pathed the small diamonds and sharpened to add a bit of ‘bling’
- pathed the main cut diamond and facets and sharpened
- altered the hue of the small diamonds to make more colourless/slightly blue
- introduced some blue facets to the main diamond to create some grading and contrast
This is one of several packshot images I retouched for this client. For this image, I:
- Removed any defects like dents in the tube.
- Eliminated distracting shadows and highlights.
- Cross-referenced the colors with the branding specs.
- Pathed/cut out the product and added an artificial shadow.
- Added a background.
- tLeft the product and shadow in a folder so the client could reposition them if needed.
